Why Choose Market For The Blind?
Unlike general-purpose marketplaces, Market For The Blind is built specifically for our community. Instead of competing with millions of unrelated listings, members can connect directly with a community that understands adaptive equipment, accessibility, and the realities of living with a disability. Whether you are selling a screen reader, braille display, mobility aid, accessible software, or simply a household item, your listing reaches people who are more likely to understand its value and purpose.
Our goal is to become a useful, accessible, and trusted marketplace for blind and low vision users.
Built for Accessibility from the Ground Up
Traditional mailing lists have served the blind community well for many years, and we respect that. But mailing lists were never designed for buying and selling. There is no structure for listings, no way to browse by category, no feedback system, and no accountability when a transaction goes wrong. Communication is scattered across threads, and finding a specific item means digging through archives or posting requests and hoping someone responds.
Facebook Marketplace is a step forward in terms of features, but it presents its own challenges. Facebook was not designed with screen reader users in mind, and many members of our community find it difficult or frustrating to navigate. Listings are mixed in with an enormous general population, and there is no focus on the kinds of items and services that matter most to blind and low vision users.
Market For The Blind was designed differently. Every page, form, and interaction has been built with screen reader accessibility as a priority, not an afterthought. Navigation is clear and consistent. Forms have properly labeled fields. Error messages name the specific field that needs attention and explain exactly what to do. You should never have to guess where you are or what a button does.
A Community Built on Trust and Accountability
Trust is essential in any marketplace.
Every account on Market For The Blind is reviewed before approval. This helps maintain the quality of the community and discourages the abuse that is common on many public marketplaces. You will not find anonymous throwaway accounts here. Every member has been looked at by a real person before being allowed to participate.
We also believe in accountability. Members are expected to communicate honestly, complete transactions responsibly, and treat one another with respect. To help maintain a positive environment, Market For The Blind uses a three-strike policy. Users who repeatedly violate site rules, engage in dishonest behavior, or create problems for other members may receive strikes against their account. After three strikes, an account may be permanently removed from the platform.
The goal is not to punish honest mistakes. Instead, the policy helps protect the community from repeat offenders while giving members the opportunity to learn from minor issues and correct their behavior.
Feedback and Reputation
Every completed transaction on Market For The Blind ends with both parties submitting feedback. This is not optional â the site requires a rating before you can continue using it. That means every member's reputation score reflects real transactions with real people, not self-reported claims or hand-picked reviews.
Ratings are Positive, Neutral, or Negative, and a member's public reputation score shows the percentage of positive feedback they have received along with the total number of transactions it is based on. A score of 95% based on 200 transactions tells you something very different from 95% based on 4 transactions â you can see both numbers and judge for yourself.
Members who consistently earn positive feedback are recognized with reputation badges, starting at Rising Star and climbing through Trusted Trader, Community Pillar, Elite Member, Market Legend, and Hall of Fame. These badges are earned through real community participation, not purchased or assigned by staff.
Combined with transaction-based feedback, reputation scores, activity logging, and account review, these safeguards help create a marketplace where users can make informed decisions and conduct transactions with greater confidence.
